suivie d’une discussion avec la participation de Jeffrey van Davis, réalisateur, Emmanuel Faye, professeur de philosophie à l’Université de Rouen, Édouard Husson, historien, vice-chancelier des Universités de Paris, et François Rastier, directeur de recherche au CNRS

 

Première enquête documentaire de long métrage consacrée à Heidegger, le film du cinéaste américain Jeffrey van Davis conduit une investigation approfondie sur la personne et l’œuvre d’un auteur souvent présenté comme « le plus grand philosophe du XX^e siècle » (Marion).

À partir d’entretiens avec une quinzaine de personnalités, historiens et philosophes notamment, le film aborde, entre autres sujets, le concept heideggérien de l’Être, le rapport de Heidegger avec le catholicisme, son activité comme Recteur national-socialiste en 1933-34, sa liaison avec Hannah Arendt, ses rapports avec Paul Celan et enfin la question de la dénazification.

North American Premiere of Only A God Can Save Us

March 17, 2010, at 6:00 p.m.  New York City at the Proshansky Auditorium across the street from the Empire State Building.  Sponsored by the Graduate Center, CUNY.  Prof. Richard Wolin will moderate the post film panel discussion.

Over 500 people attended, security had to remove people from sitting in the aisles.  An excellent introduction by Distinguished Professor, Richard Wolin, of the Graduate Center, CUNY.  After the screening an hour long discussion with Q and A followed.  A great success.

March 22, 2010, 6:30 p.m. University of Pennsylvania, Annenberg School for Communications, Philadelphia.
Carlin Romano moderated the postfilm panel discussion which was over an hour long.  Another great success!

March 23, 2010, University of Maryland, College Park,  Professor Jeffrey Herf moderated the postfilm discussion.
Followed by a great postfilm discussion including faculty from Maryland as well as surrounding universities.  A very high level of intellectual discourse.  Great students as well as faculty helped make it a great evening.

March 24, 2010, 7:00 p.m. Telecom Room, Alexander Library, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ sponsored by Philosophy Department.  Prof. Barry Loewer, Dept. Head, moderated the postfilm panel discussion with Prof. Jason Stanley, Rutgers and Prof. Andreas Kalyvas, New School for Social Research, Professor Richard Wolin, GC CUNY..  A long intense and lively discussion followed.  Another great success!
in which many faculty and students participated. 

March 26, 2010, 4:00 p.m.  T.C. Walsh Theatre,  Suffolk University, Boston, sponsored by the Philosophy Dept.  Prof. Greg Fried moderated the post film panel discussion with Prof. Daniel Dahlstrom, Boston University.  Prof. Bill Richardson was also present and contributed much to the discussion.  One of the best postfilm discussions which included many students as well.

March 28, 2010, Penn State University.  Professor Lawrence Rose, moderated postfilm discussion. Professors
Robert Bernasconi and Dennis Schmidt, highly critical of the film, contributed much to the post film discussion.
One of the best yet and continued till we were forced to leave the auditorium.  Professor Paul Lawrence Rose's
highly insightful and diplomatic moderation helped promote a great sense of civility.  Without a doubt the one screening where the Heideggerians were out in full force and especially added to the wonderfully intense debate about Heidegger. 

April 7, 2010, Cinemateque, Jerusalem  Sold out crowd, people had to be turned away.  The filmmaker has been asked back to show the film again in July in Israel.

Future screenings in Paris, Dublin, St. Petersburg, Moscow to be announced.  U.S. film tour planned for the Fall of 2010 throughout the Midwest and West.  Universities already to be scheduled:  Stanford, University of Colorado, University of New Mexico, University of Arizona, University of Idaho, University of Illinois, University of Chicago, University of Wisconsin.
